Friday Favorites

  1. Dr. G Brightening Peeling Gel: The girls in my beauty group turned me on to this and it’s the absolute holy grail of exfoliating!  It’s super gentle, you could actually use this once or twice a week, but I wouldn’t suggest any more.  I had zero redness and my face felt so soft immediately after I could have cried.  It’s a chemical exfoliator, not a manual one, which is much better.  Basically you apply a quarter sized amount and rub it around until you feel the dead skin balling up under your fingers!
  2. I don’t even know if these things have an official name or manufacturer. I’ve been using them forever since I found them at Daiso years ago but have been seeing them all over the place lately.  They’re super soft and squishy so you wrap your hair around them before bed to keep your hair from flattening out and getting glued to your head while you sleep.  I think they were like $2 for 6 and I use anywhere from 6-10 at a time and I have a good amount of hair but it’s not super long.  If you have a lot of levels no hair you may want to use 2 full sets or more.
  3. I thought everyone knew about this site but apparently not.  It’s a great site for prints, both framed and unframed, but they also make really awesome home stuff!  Basically it’s a site where hundreds of artists offer their art and the company prints it on a ton of different items; shower curtains, duvet covers, rugs, pillows, clocks, phone and computer cases, and on and on.  I have soooo much cute stuff from society 6 in my house!  I will say, the quality is nothing to write home about, but for cute little novelty things around the house, it serves it’s purpose.  I didn’t love the rug I ordered for this reason, it was pretty crappy and had no backing so it was slippery af.  But I’m tickled pink with every other thing I’ve ordered from them!  The best part is there are literally thousands of designs.  It would be impossible not to find something you love.  You could search for the most random item, like goats, pickles, Or Patrick Swayze, and you’ll find a ton of different designs.  This makes it really cool for, say, a kid’s room where you’re designing with a particular theme.
  4. Sammy’s Milk:  There’s actually been a bit of controversy surrounding this stuff as of late, but I still love it. It was recently recalled for fear it “may” contain cronobacter bacteria, cronobacter can cause serious blood infections or meningitis.  Really there was no reason to think Sammy’s formula contained it, nor were there any reports of illness or any any of the cans containing it.  The problem was that in order to label something “infant formula” you have to manufacture your product under compliance with certain regulations, which this mom and pop owned business, who’s actually local right here in Newport Beach, was not doing.  That being sad, River was on this stuff and he did so well on it!  I loved it for him.  He doesn’t have a regular milk sensitivity per se, but he was obviously digesting the goat’s milk so much more easily.  It was also a great transition for him into regular goat’s milk which honestly I cannot stand but wish I could.  It’s a lot easier for our bodies to break down goat’s milk.  Another thing to mention though, is that goat’s milk and therefore some goat’s milk formulas, contains less iron and folic acid than cow’s milk so you’ll want to supplement.

Friday Favs!

1.  These candles are EVERYTHING, including a mess, but I love them still.  I got Kisa the cat as a gift but now see that they make BUNNIES so I’m about to level up on my Pyropet game!  When you burn these sweet, waxy little effers, it reveals their metal skeletons.  Oh my goth. ūüíÄ

2.  I’m a fan of felt ball garlands, but also root for team string lights.  This Christmas I tried wrapping both around the top of River’s teepee in the spirit of festivity, but it was a little much. Bright Lab Lights offer the best of both worlds.  My favorite thing about these is that you can customize your color scheme from their vast assortment of gorgeous colors, or you can choose from their genius preset color combos if you’re color dumb, as I tend to be with too many choices.

3.  When I first found these glasses I thought “cute, not for me.”  Then I couldn’t stop thinking about them.  I finally caved and bought some in magenta and they really are SO cool on, I ended up buying the black as well.  Now I’m thinking I may need every color.  I got mine from but see they now have them for CHEAPER.  They look similar if not the same to me!  They’re also great for color therapy and to help enhance your mood.

4.  At first I wasn’t sure if my little boy was going to like dolls or soft toys but he really does!  He likes to squish and hug them and they really do seem to comfort him.  It’s such a better alternative when putting him to sleep than the fist fills of my hair he typically likes to snuggle with.  These gorgeous dolls from Cuddle + Kind are definitely a win win!  Every doll purchased provides 10 meals to children in need!

1.  If I have a motto about dressing babies it’s that comfort is king!  I love babies and kids that look comfortable, cute, and never fussy.  That’s what’s cool to me.  Childhoods Clothing gets it.  So far River only has 2 rompers and a pair of their shorty shorts, but I want everything they have in every size and color.  I love that they come in all types of layers, even short sleeved hoodies.  Which works great in California where even in the summer it always cools down at night juuuust enough for another layer.

2. Aren’t these pillows just the neatest?  I want a whole mountain range for River’s bed.  I imagine the dreams he would have about being a great adventurer with these surrounding him.  They’re made by Three Bad Seeds and even their tree and animal pillows are just as stylish and cool as hell.  What’s better than awesome looking bedding that works double duty for play time, too?

3.  I couldn’t decide which style of these awesome night lights from Goodnight Light I wanted to feature.  I fell in love with their kitschy baby doll night lights, stayed for the pink pineapple, but am now in a committed relationship with their new cactus lights!  Unique and fun and sophisticated enough to feature in any room of your house, not just a kid’s room.  Think about how chill this would look on literally any flat surface of your house.  (River is lucky his helmet treatment corrected that or he’d be wearing one of these on his head)

4.  I’ve spent WAY too much time indoors this week due to my surgery and I am about ready to kick down the door and flee, meanwhile I can’t even lift up my leg in the tub high enough for the razor to reach it.  But all I can think about is taking River to the beach.  I’m on the hunt for a really good beach umbrella (if you find one let me know), but also on the list was a towel big enough for the both of us.  I’ve had my eye on these round towels from The Beach People for quite awhile just because they’re so cool.  I’ve seen a lot of knock offs since, but the thing I like about these is that they are thick and soft.  A lot of other round “beach blankets” are made of thin cotton, like a flat bed sheet.   That’s uh no good at the beach.  Give me something soft and absorbent and thick enough to be warm if I need to use it as a blanket when the wind kicks up while my moon doggy is still hangin 10.  I can’t wait to park our behinds on this baby as soon as I find the right umbrella and my husband shaves my legs.

1. Here is something that’s true; Korean beauty products do not fuck around. Here is something that’s also true; Belif Aqua Bomb is one of my favorite things I’ve ever put on my face. It’s beyond moisturizing without being heavy or greasy. And it doesn’t have any sulphates, phthalates or parabens. Lucky you they apparently have it at Sephora now so you don’t have to go traipsing all over the internet like my dumb ass did.

2. This baby blanket has all the coolness of a Mexican serape, without the Itchy and Scratchy show. The serape blankets I have feel like they have only a slightly higher thread count than burlap. This is super soft and is Sherpa on one side! I found mine at Granola Babies in Costa Mesa, but the one I hunted down on Little Messengers shop looks almost exactly like it! I just think these are so special. I love the colors and how sophisticated and not babyish they are.

3. I’ve had this app since the day it came out, but I’ve really only been playing around with it recently. It can truly take your photos to another level. I’ve always been jealous of people with Instagram pages that look all cohesive and lovely. I some day hope to get there, possibly right after I find time to shave my own legs. But for now I’ll just smurf around and have fun with it. It takes a little bit to master and really grasp the full genius of this editing app. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very user friendly. I think at first glance it seems like just another filtering app, but the subtleties are where it’s at. I think the key is to play around with filters at very low percentages, don’t over do it. One of my favorite things is that on the A Color Story Instagram page they post user photos with the “recipe” of how they created the look so you can replicate.

4. I always thought I hated abstract art. But recently I started looking for something to hang in the space above my kitchen table and wanted to think outside the realm of what I typically pick. I realized one day that literally every piece of art in my house is either a portrait of a person or an animal. Landscapes are a big snooze-fest, so I started looking into abstract art. It turns out I still pretty much hate it. BUT, what I don’t hate, I LOVE. It’s very polarizing, but that’s super neat.  I happened upon this artist named Mari Orr in my quest and her stuff is a tiny bit of magic.  I could get lost in her brush strokes, which she highlights singularly sometimes on her Instagram.

Friday Favorites!

I’m starting a new feature where on Fridays I’ll be posting a few of the items I’m currently crushing on! ¬†There’s always some new thing for babies or my home or beauty/health and wellness that I’m obsessing over every week. ¬†This week they all come from Etsy shops because I’ve been cruising my Etsy app at night after the child goes to sleep. ¬†(TBH probably a lot of these posts in the future will come from there because this bitch loves her some Etsy)

1. ¬†Neon Plant Hangers! ¬†I ordered this yellow gem from¬†The Vintage Loop¬†because I LOVE pops of neon in a room and I’ve been looking for a cool plant hanger. ¬†They come in lots of colors but the neon yellow, hot pink, and bright blue are the COOOO-LEST.

2. ¬†I ordered these sweet little snake socks ¬†from¬†Hady’s Closet¬†because, I mean, COME ON! ¬†Are these the cutest ever or what? ¬†I’ve been looking for knee socks for River that weren’t too girly. Now that he’s crawling and the weather is warmer, I wanted a way to keep his fat little baby legs protected on our hard wood without him having to wear pants all the time. ¬†Knee socks make diaper changes so much easier than pants, and I just couldn’t pass ¬†up these ssssweet sssssilly sssssnakes!

3. ¬†I found these Fox Socks on¬†May Cutie Boutique¬†while on the hunt for River’s snake socks! ¬†They were oh so cute, but far too girly for Bruiser, so I just had to get them for my niece.

4. ¬†Ok, this Rainbow Highlighter from¬†Bitter Lace Beauty¬†might seem a little out there, and it actually is, but it’s also truly magical! ¬†A girl in one of my Facebook groups posted about this and it was so gorgeous on her I wanted to cry. ¬†It’s subtle enough to not look crazy, just like the light is hitting you perfectly and your unicorn ancestry is shining through. ¬†Also, she said it smells like cotton candy! Sadly, do to high demand they are currently out of stock, but you better believe I have my email on their list to be notified when they get more in.
